FRANCESCO MARIA MESSINA

Francesco Maria Messina is an Italian architect and artist whose work bridges the worlds of art, design, and sculpture. From his studio in Tuscany, he creates one-of-a-kind pieces that merge architectural precision with poetic materiality. Each work becomes a dialogue between nature, history, and light, celebrating the raw beauty of matter through exceptional craftsmanship.

Trained in Paris at the École Spéciale d’Architecture and at the Confluence Institute in Lyon, Messina’s education and international experiences — from New Orleans to Cameroon and Mauritius — shaped his distinctive creative language. In 2018, he co-founded Cypraea, a Mauritian luxury furniture brand, before returning to Italy to establish FMM Studio in 2020.

His collections — including Glacies, Mineralia, Fossilia, and De-Architectura — explore the boundaries between the natural and the constructed, translating geological forms and architectural archetypes into sculptural objects of rare refinement. Each piece is handcrafted in Tuscany, using noble materials such as alabaster, marble, and metals, and elevated through meticulous artisanal processes to a level of collectible art.

Messina’s work has been exhibited internationally at NOMAD Abu Dhabi, Milan Design Week, Venice Design Biennial, Dubai Design Week, London Collect, Unique Design X Savannah, Arte in Nuvola in Rome, Edit Napoli, and the Lake Como Design Fair.

He creates bespoke, one-of-a-kind works that transcend design and function, evolving into collectible art that is both sculptural and functional, crafted for private collectors and international commissions from Paris to Dubai and Abuja.
