Jasper Johns is an iconic artist whose artwork straddled the line between Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art. Drawing directly from existing cultural imagery such as targets, maps, and flags, Johns’s artwork establishes a connection to the ready-made. However, the subject is abstracted and obscured by gestural mark-making, and collaged elements.
