Lewis Wexler, Proprietor  

Lewis Wexler began his career in the arts as Assistant Vice President of 20 th Century Decorative Arts at Christie's auction house in New York City. Following his work at Christie's, Lewis worked with world-renowned French art Deco dealer Anthony Delorenzo at his Madison Avenue gallery.

In 2000 Lewis opened the Wexler Gallery in historic Old City Philadelphia. In his 5,600 square foot gallery space Lewis is able to showcase the very best of decorative and fine art. The gallery exhibits works by Wendell Castle, Albert Paley and Dale Chihuly, among others. He has lectured at the Renwick and the Furniture Society Conference. Lewis has been on the jury to select work for the Philadelphia Craft Show, the Smithsonian Craft Show and the Washington Craft Show.

Lewis sits on the board of the Old City Arts Association and the Creative Glass Center of Philadelphia and the Creative Glass Center of America. He is a member of the Renwick Alliance, The Furniture Society and the Art Alliance of Contemporary Glass.


Sherri Apter Wexler, Co-proprietor

Sherri Apter Wexler began her career in the arts working with in various art galleries and later at photojournalism powerhouse Magnum Photos in New York.  She then moved to Christie’s Auction House where she spent several years researching and cataloguing Contemporary, Old Master and Modern prints, and met her life partner, Lewis Wexler.  Her experience with Spanish language and culture made her a natural choice to cultivate Christie’s Latin American Print Department.

Later, Sherri’s career took a different turn when she committed herself professionally to the field of video and film production. An award winning video producer/director, Sherri has produced and directed high-level projects for clients such as Comcast, KPMG Consulting Centocor and Xerox. In addition to commercials and corporate videos, Sherri spent a period of time on the road, producing live concert and boxing events for HBO and Showtime. Her strong visual sensibility, as well as her experience with both multimedia and fine artists adds an exciting dimension to the Wexler Gallery. Sherri is the current curator of WALLS at Wexler Gallery, focusing on accessible paintings, prints and photography.

Sherri earned Bachelors Degrees in Economics and Spanish Literature from Washington University in St. Louis, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She has studied at the University of Salamanca in Salamanca Spain and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.  

Sienna Freeman, Associate Director

Sienna Freeman has dedicated her career to supporting the development and growth of Philadelphia’s art community. Former Resident artist and show curator at Space1026 Gallery and Artist Studios, she worked along side many of Philadelphia’s prominent young artists including founding members Andrew Jeffery Wright and Ben Woodward. Sienna has assisted artists with the production of their work at Bella Prints and Printed Planet, two major textile design studios based out of New York City. She has also volunteered her services as a photographer to The Village of Arts and Humanities, a non-profit organization that tackles urban plight in Philadelphia.

Stemming from a family background deeply rooted in cultural studies and the visual arts, Sienna was greatly influenced by modern art theory, history, and criticism. The child of two fine artists, she was encouraged by her grandfather, a painter and designer for Revlon in the 1950’s, and close family friend and internationally renowned sculptor, Charles Searles. Sienna’s own work deals largely with gender and identity issues while exploring the transitory nature of self-perception, emotion, and memory. Her non-traditional works in photography, photomontage, and collage have been shown in numerous group and solo exhibitions. She has a BFA from the University of the Arts in Photography.

Michele Amicucci, Gallery Administrator/Registrar

Michele Amicucci received her Bachelor’s Degree in art history from Tyler School of Art at Temple University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She was greatly influenced by her courses in modern and contemporary art, as well as the inspiration of classic Italian art while studying abroad in Rome, Italy. Michele then received her Master’s Degree from The University of the Arts where she gained experience and knowledge of various Philadelphia art institutions, such as the Institute of Contemporary Art, The Clay Studio, and Independence National Historic Park. Michele’s Master’s Thesis examined the impact and influence that restoration practices has on visitor understanding and experience.

Michele began her career in the arts while working as a collections manager for a private art collector in Pennsylvania, whose prominent collection included artworks by Andy Warhol, Georgia O’Keefe, Donald Judd and other modern and contemporary masters. Michele also served as a collections manager and artist liaison for Acadia's Summer Art Program 2007 in Bar Harbor, Maine.
