Dan Dailey: Important Works

PHILADELPHIA- This spring, on our 2nd Floor Exhibitions Space, Wexler Gallery is proud to host an exhibition of important Dan Dailey pieces from the artist’s personal archive.  The show will run from March 1- April 27, 2013.  A selection of these works will be included in The University of the Arts’ Art Unleashed 2013 exhibition and sale, which helps raise money to support the University’s Sam S. McKeel Promising Young Artists Scholarship Fund. While Art Unleashed 2013 is on view, Wexler Gallery will donate a percentage of sales from select Dailey works to The University of the Arts.


				
														
 																
		

Philipp Aduatz & Esque Studio

In the main gallery space, Wexler Gallery is proud to present new works by two innovative young designers Philipp Aduatz and Esque Studio.  The show will run from December 7, 2012 through February 23, 2013. An opening reception will take place on First Friday, December 7th from 5 – 8pm.

Vienna based Designer Philipp Aduatz creates limited edition functional objects that are highly sculptural in nature.  Working with innovative materials and fabrication technologies, Aduatz is very much influenced by scientific matters such as chemistry, physics and material technologies.  Read More …

This year, our booth will focus on the interaction of contemporary design with traditional forms of craft.  By showcasing cutting edge design work from a variety of fields along side outstanding pieces by master glass artists, the space will recontextualize the craft object, validating its importance in today’s market place.

Highlighted designers will include innovative talents such as Vivain Beer, Timothy Schreiber, Philipp Aduatz, David Trubridge, and more.  Excellent examples of secondary market glass works by master makers such as William Morris, Stanislav Libensky & Jaroslava Brychtova, Tom Patti, Joel Philip Myers, Mark Peiser, Dan Clayman, and Dale Chihuly will also be on view. 

David Trubridge: Southern Lights

In the main gallery space, Wexler Gallery is proud to present Southern Lights, a solo exhibition of recent works by New Zealand based designer David Trubridge. The show will run from October 5 through November 30, 2012.

Trained naval architect and self-taught woodworker, David Trubridge is a designer and maker whose passion for the environment has been celebrated since the 1970’s.  Well know for his innovative lighting and furniture designs on an international level, Trubridge uses only sustainably grown and treated materials to create one-of-a-kind and limited edition pieces.  Often referencing forms and patterns found in nature, the designer is interested in making work that is both functional and sculptural, telling stories about the natural world and our relationship to it.

AMERICAN MASTERS: A Celebration of 50 Years of Studio Glass

July 13 – September 29, 2012

In correlation with the 2012 nationwide celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the American Glass Studio Movement, Wexler Gallery is honored to present a historic exhibition of museum quality pieces by American master glass artists.  The show will run from July 13 through September 29, 2012.

The exhibit will include excellent examples of works by pioneering glass artists such as  Mark Peiser, Dominic Labino, Harvey Littleton, and Marvin Lipofsky, along side pieces by the next generation of glass makers including Richard Marquis, William Morris, Paul Stankard, Tom Patti, and Dan Dailey.

Historic works from the personal studio archive of Joel Philip Myers, recipient of the 2012 Glass Art Society Lifetime Achievement Award, will also be highlighted during the exhibition.

WILD NATURE

PHILADELPHIA- In the main gallery space, Wexler Gallery is proud to present WILD Nature, a group show exploring themes relating to the natural world, the human condition, and the idea of the sublime.  Featured artists will include Christy Langer, Julie Anne Mann, Andy Paiko, and Jennifer TraskCurated by Wexler Gallery Director Sienna Freeman.  The exhibition will run from May 4 – June 30, 2012.  An opening reception will take place on First Friday, May 4th from 5 – 8pm.  

WILD Nature will investigate the awe-inspiring and sometimes terrifying qualities of nature, a topic widely explored by artists and writers during the Romantic period in Europe.  Using a variety of mediums and techniques, featured artists will explore the exotic worlds of flora and fauna from an allegorical approach, often drawing from personal experiences, memories, and dreams.  The show will also consider connections between the human subconscious and the wilderness of the physical world.

Narrative Thread: Diem Chau, Orly Cogan, Erin Endicott, Flore Gardner, Donna Rosenthal

March 2 – April 28, 2012

In correlation with Fiber Philadelphia 2012, Wexler Gallery will proudly present Narrative Thread, a group exhibition exploring innovative stitching and assemblage techniques.

The exhibition will address multiple understandings of identity, story telling, domestic work, and domestic objects.  Featured artists will include Diem Chau, Orly Cogan, Flore Gardner, Erin Endicott, and  Donna Rosenthal.

Howard Werner & Michelle Stuhl

In the main space, the gallery will host an exhibition of works by husband and wife artists, furniture maker Howard Werner and painter Michelle Stuhl.  Show will run from March 2nd through April 28th.
