Richard Marquis has been pursuing his artistic endeavors since 1963, earning a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1969 and 1972 respectively. His accomplished resume includes recent Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Glass Art Society (2005), Art Alliance of Contemporary Glass (2006) as well as the James Renwick Alliance Masters of the Medium Award from the Smithsonian Institute in 2009. “While versed in Italian techniques, Mr. Marquis does not follow any particular rules or styles,” writes one reviewer from the Wignall Museum/Gallery. Marquis’ glass works have been exhibited almost constantly since 1966 nationally and abroad. In 2005 Marquis also completed his house on Whidbey Island in Washington State after 23 years of work.
